‘It makes us feel like we are part of something bigger.’
‘It means we are all valued, equally.’
‘It keeps us safe when we’re out on trips.’
‘It shows we are proud to represent our school.’
These are just some of the quotes our pupils state about our uniform.
Wearing a uniform makes us feel equal and gives us a sense of belonging to the West Rainton Primary School family. As an Inclusion Quality Mark Centre of Excellence, ensuring everyone feels welcome and equally valued is at the heart of our ethos. The governing body and senior leaders are also committed to ensuring we keep the cost of the school day as low as possible for parents, and we are proud that our uniform policy supports this aim. Keep an eye on Class Dojo, as we continually signpost parents and carers to the best deals on offer for uniform at all major retailers.
Pupils at West Rainton Primary School are required to wear the following:
- Emerald Green V-neck or Round Neck Jumpers or Cardigans- these can be ordered online from Tots to Teams website: www.totstoteams.com (delivery to school is free, home delivery incurs a small charge). Please allow plenty of time for dispatch and delivery particularly around high demand times such as over the summer holiday.
- White shirts/polo shirts
- Black or grey skirts, pinafore dresses or trousers (no denim or leggings please).
- In the summer, pupils are allowed to wear gingham dresses in green or yellow, or school shorts in grey or black.
We do not insist that pupils wear the branded jumpers (containing our logo), although we have sourced very reasonably-priced suppliers for this. You are welcome to find your own of the same colour.
Footwear
All children are required to wear sensible black school shoes with no big logos or additional colours. Boots, heels and trainers are not suitable for school. In winter weather, children can come to school in wellies, and bring indoor shoes for during lessons.
PE
All children are allocated a house on admission to our school, and our office manager will offer you the correct colour house top for PE. Children also need plain black shorts and a pair of trainers or gym shoes. Children in Key Stage Two are allowed to wear running tights or fitted tracksuit bottoms if they prefer them to shorts. The top must be the school house top, however.
Please note that PE kit stays in school until teachers send it home, so it is best if the trainers are solely for school use and not required to go home each night.
Hairstyles
Children must not come into school with extreme hairstyles – mohicans/mohawks, colours or lines/patterns shaved in. We also ask that all hair of shoulder length is tied up neatly.
Jewellery
Children are permitted to wear a watch for school (not including smart watches for e-safety purposes) as this encourages their ability to tell the time. No other jewellery is permitted in school for safety and security reasons. Please avoid getting ears pierced at any time, other than the beginning of the summer holidays, as all PE and outdoor play has to be stopped for children wearing earrings. Children are not permitted to have acrylic nails or nail extensions for school as this poses a safety risk.
Labelling
Please label all items of clothing with iron-in labels or permanent marker. The children all have a peg and box in school in which to store their items, but labelled items are much easier to reunite with their owners!
