Safeguarding

At West Rainton Primary School, we regard the safeguarding of children as our top priority. We believe that we all have the right to be happy, to be safe and to learn. We all have the responsibility to make this happen. If you have concerns about the safety or wellbeing of a child please don’t hesitate to contact us at school, or ring First Contact on 03000 267979.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in our school is Mrs Alison Mcdonough.

In the absence of Alison McDonough, you can speak to Mrs Susan Firth or Mrs Julia Struthers, who are trained to safeguarding lead level, for advice.

First Contact is the single point of contact for children and young people’s services in County Durham. ANYONE can ring First Contact, on 03000 267979,  to raise a concern about a child.

Our designated governor for safeguarding is Rev. Michael Beck.

Our school uses the CPOMS programme for collating and organising safeguarding data records. This ensures our records are safe, accessible and current. All staff have received training in inputting records into CPOMS.

All staff in West Rainton Primary School have also received training on Prevent; our duty to safeguard children and young people who may be vulnerable to the risk of radicalisation. The DSL, and other senior staff,  have completed FGM awareness training in addition to other safeguarding courses, including criminal and sexual exploitation, and safeguarding related to online risks.

Mrs McDonough is also youth mental health first aid trained to add to the strong safeguarding and wellbeing provision that is a priority here at West Rainton Primary.

The Single Point of Contact for Prevent in our school is Mrs Alison Mcdonough.
