We ended our food technology unit once again this year with a picnic for our families and friends. This year, we took inspiration from the 70th birthday of the NHS to create our health-themed food. We were, once again, very well supported by local businesses; Homer Hill Farm Shop, The Italian Farmhouse and The Three Horse Shoes all donated beautiful treats for us all to enjoy. We had another glorious sunny day to celebrate a very special occasion and to say thank you to all of our families for their support this academic year.
Unicorn Makeover Experience!
Our very lucky Year 6’s had a fantastic morning making very special memories before they leave us for secondary school. Ellie, the pony, came in to school for a unicorn makeover with hair chalks. She was very well behaved and loved being pampered by her stylists. A special memento of a unicorn rosette was given to each participant at the end of the session. What a fab experience to take away from our final weeks in primary!
Edinburgh 2018
27 pupils from Years 5 and 6 spent a gloriously sunny weekend in the Scottish capital in June 2018. An early train from Durham meant we were in Edinburgh in plenty of time to see all of the sights. We saw the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, Greyfriar’s Bobby, The Museum of Scotland, The Camera Obscura and took an open-top bus tour all on day one!
After a Nando’s tea and a good night’s sleep, we headed to Edinburgh zoo and saw the pandas, meerkats, monkeys and penguins amongst many other animals. Back in Prince’s Street Gardens, we saw a pipe band contest before catching the train home. What a fantastic weekend we all had!
Gymnastics tournament 2018
We were thrilled to be able to hold our very first intra-school gymnastics tournament in summer 2018. Our gymnastics club has been going strong since early spring and the standard of all of the competitors was incredibly high, demonstrating moves such as a one-handed cartwheel, splits, straddle and bridge.
Thank you so much to our coach, Cheryl, who has been brilliant all year in getting the children to such a high standard. Well done to all of our gymnasts- you were fabulous!
Sports’ Day 2018
Well done to all of our competitors in this year’s sports’ day. It was a gloriously sunny day and the event could not have been closer between all four houses. It was lovely to see how many of our supporters bought house scarves to cheer on their favourite team and we were thrilled when the adults joined in with the tug of war.
After a mammoth display of strength in the children’s tug of war, Kepier came out as overall winners for sports’ day 2018. The house of the year for house points in 2018 goes to Hallgarth. Well done to everyone!
Beamish Flag and Empire Day
We attended Beamish Museum’s celebration of Flag and Empire Day in May 2018. The event is a celebration of the commitment and effort our young people put into to the various organisations they are part of including their school. This year our group of volunteers proudly waved our school flag and our new Dementia Friendly flag as we help our local community become more dementia aware. We had a beautiful sunny day to march alongside hundreds of children and young people from schools, cadets, cubs, guides, brownies, scouts and rainbows.
Japanese culture morning
Pupils across Key Stage Two were very fortunate to spend the morning alongside Japanese students who taught them a whole range of things about their culture. The children loved dressing up, trying chopsticks, creating origami, calligraphy and learning some Japanese words and phrases. In exchange, the students were improving their English for teaching young people. A great morning of learning for everyone!
Durham Primary Dance Festival 2018
Wow! Our Key Stage Two dancers stole the show at the Durham Primary Dance Festival to end the term with a bang! Our routine to ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman had the audience screaming and cheering with delight. That was after an awesome display by Year Six to ‘Ego’ which scooped the award for most original routine. Well done to all- you were AMAZING!
Beamish with Year 1
To finish off their history topic on coalmining, Year One finally got to visit Beamish Museum after two cancellations due to snow! It was worth the wait, however, as Year One showed off their learning both in the coalmine itself and in the surrounding pit village. They loved riding on the tram and visiting the Victorian sweet shop (they weren’t so keen on the dentist afterwards!)
Sport Relief 2018
What a fantastic effort made for Sport Relief 2018! We raised over £350 through a day of healthy activity and a coffee morning for the grown-ups. From our two-year-olds to eleven-year-olds everyone joined in with a carousel of sports and games including: javelin, netball, hockey, long-distance running and the floor is lava! Well done everyone- you thoroughly deserve your wristbands.
