Year 6 Spring Term

In English, we are beginning with a fantastic story called, ‘Julia and the Shark’ by a much-loved author in our class; Kiran Millwood Hargrave. Throughout this text, we will be looking at how stories are multi-layered and that more often than not, there are hidden depths beneath the surface. We will be supporting this text with some of our reading spine non-fiction books on sharks and mental health awareness.

Our maths learning will promote our speed and fluency across all areas of the subject as we head towards the SATs next term.

We will be looking at the United States in geography, looking at why it is a nation like no other. After half-term we will be building on our key stage one learning about the coalmining industry by looking at The Industrial Revolution- a pivotal time in world but also our local history. In art, we are making creative choices of our own to explore plants and flowers in a range of media. In PE, we will be enjoying a unit on dance, culminating with a performance at the Primary Dance Festival in the Gala Theatre, Durham in March.

You can see more about what we will be learning on the detailed map below:

Spring term update:

Spring may have been a short term, but we’ve crammed a lot of learning in! As well as gearing up towards our SATs we’ve done some fantastic projects such as our DT woodwork unit on prototype bird hides. We also had great fun creating items for our new 3D printer in computing. We represented our school at the Primary Dance Festival and our football team came 4th in our league this term too! We also wowed the Ofsted inspectors with our values towards learning, each other and school.
