RE in classes 5 and 6 this term covers the religion of Islam. Over their primary years, children learn about the facts and practises of the world’s most followed religions as well as other cultural/religious beliefs and about people who do not follow any particular faith. As our understanding of different people’s values and beliefs expands, we begin to see that all human beings have far more in common than what sets us apart.
We were delighted that a local Muslim couple who worship at a mosque in Newcastle, came to share their experiences and beliefs about their faith. They talked about their own pilgrimage to Mecca and the five pillars of Islam. They were also very interested to hear the beliefs and values of our pupils who follow a different faith to them.
